Clark Adams, President of Internet Infidels, has died of his own hand. Born in 1969 in Lousville, Kentucky, from an early age he was skeptical of the teachings of the Catholic school he attended and the religiosity of his community. In the 1990s, he was an early pioneer of Internet freethought, moderating the USENET alt.atheism.moderated newsgroup for more than a decade. He was a long-term board member of Internet Infidels before he became President.
He was chief organizer and, later, M.C. of the Lake Hypatia Freethought Advance, leading it from little more than a camp site to an annual event attracting many attendees from a number of countries. A self-described conference junkie, he attended and spoke at many conferences every year. He was a founder of the Secular Coalition of America and founded the Las Vegas Freethought Society. He was involved with the Secular Student Alliance and was President of the Humanist Association of Las Vegas and Southern Nevada.
Well known for his talks on Atheism and the Media and other subjects as well as his meetups and trivia quizes, Clark excelled at bringing freethinkers together in a spirit of intellectual discourse, friendship, and love. In a world of individualists, hard as cats to herd, he created community, leading behind the scenes.
He is sorely missed.
